A Conversation with Luke

"Look Mama, the moon!" Luke said as we were driving at dusk one night.
"Yes, that is the moon." I replied.
"I'm SUPERMAN and I will fly up and get the moon."
"Your Superman?"
"Yes, and I will get the moon for you Mama."
My heart melted. My sweet boy!

One day at the pool.
"Daddy I need to go potty!" Jake and Luke began to make their way to the bathroom.
"Hold it." Jake replies. Then Luke proceeds to hold himself in order to try to keep it all in.
"No, no just hold it with your mind." Jake says. Then Luke cupped his hand to his head and hung on tight!
So funny! He cracks me up!

Yesterday when Ty got up from his nap Luke went in to play with him. I was mopping the kitchen floor, so I waited a minute before I went upstairs to let Ty out of his crib. I could hear them on the monitor laughing. When I arrived in Ty's room I saw that Luke had put a bunch of toys in the crib and climbed in himself to play with Ty. When I tried to get Ty out he cried and reached to get back in. They played in there for at least 30 minutes. It was so sweet. They are really becoming best friends.

This is when Luke was so sick. He got strep and scarlet fever and double ear infections. My poor baby. But finally, we are all better.

Yesterday while watching the inauguration I felt truly touched by a spirit of patriotism. Whether you voted for him or not (not interested in a political debate) I think most people would admit that Obama has a commanding presence. He is a great public speaker and the nation has certainly rallied behind him. I feel optimistic that things ARE changing and that positive things will happen for us individually and as a nation. I give my support to our new president and I pray that Heavenly Father will bless him with wisdom.

Life

Today I have been doing a lot of thinking. A dear friend of mine lost her little girl yesterday. She was almost 2. I can't begin to express how my heart aches for their family. My thoughts have been continually with them since finding out. I pray that our Heavenly Father will sustain them in the months ahead.
It has rocked me a little to be honest. Besides the pain I feel for my friend and her family, I feel vunerable. The life that we live here hangs on by a very small thread. In an instant lives are changed. I know it may seem spiritually or emotionally immature, but I feel terrified of what may or may not be in store for us down the road. Have you ever been in a place where everything is going great and you think-"Things are perfect!" At times like that I always wonder what the next step in our purpose here will be. I am not sure if I am making any sense. But I think most of you have been there.

Please pray for my friend.

Rewind 2008

Updates on Ty

Ty just turned 16 months old. He is no longer a little baby. He is running and communicating quite well. I say communicating because he still doesn't talk very much, but he DEFINITELY gets his point across. He is quite feisty and such a Mama's boy. He loves Star Wars toys (I think just because brother does) and Elmo and singing and dancing. He also has really started an enthusiasm for reading and books. He didn't used to be too interested and wouldn't sit still long enough for me to read to him, but now he LOVES it! He brightens our lives with his big toothy grin and vibrant personality.

At his 15 month check-up he was 8th percentile for height. My sweet boy. I hope he grows up to be taller than Mom. He is built like a Burt from the waist down.

Luke's first day of primary. My sweet handsome little boy. He was not too thrilled with the change. He informed us upon picking him up after church that "we didn't play". Apparently he likes Nursery better. I know he will settle in quickly.

Making cookies for Santa! Luke was SO helpful.

We had a fantastic Christmas here. Jake had to work Christmas Eve. At first I thought this would bother me, but the boys and I had a fun day getting things ready for our "Christmas Party". Luke and I made cookies for Santa. We listened to music, watched Christmas movies. Uncle Jordan came for Christmas. It was great having him. We had a great dinner, watched the Grinch, read "Twas the Night Before Christmas" and Luke 2. Then we bore our testimonies of the divinity of our Savior to the boys. We started a tradition last year that Jake sings us Christmas carols in Russian. I LOVE it! Then we all sing carols together. We played Luke's new game Wii Music. Then it was pajama time. My parents started a tradition of new pj's on Christmas Eve. Jake and I have continued this. I love seeing them in their new pj's.

Christmas morning was wonderful. Luke was really into Santa this year. He loved seeing the empty plate of cookies. "Santa" left a note for the boys thanking them for the delicious cookies. Luke LOVED opening presents. Ty just wanted the candy in the stocking. He is serious about eating!!
